Five Years
Posted by Moose on August 13th, 2010. Filed under: Love.Lately, I’ve been resisting this blog with such tremulous might and stubborn force of will that you’d assume it was a standardized test that I, in my dewy naivete, assumed would determine the course of my entire life. Huh. Perhaps I’ve managed to convince myself it has.
The Algorithm of CRAZY
1. I’m a writer.
2. That’s how I earn (most of/some of) my daily bread.
3. Blogging is my favorite kind of writing.
4. If I can’t manage to blog, my writing mojo must be wasting away, possibly of consumption. Or maybe malaria.
5. Ergo, I won’t be able to make a living.
6. I’ll die on a street corner. Alone.
Cure for the Crazy
Oh, honey. Stop.
For no apparent reason, I recently checked the date of my first post here. And realized that Tuesday, August 10th, was the official five year anniversary of starting this pixelated journal of mine. This realization gave me pause, I admit. There are a lot of reasons a person can feel like they’ve failed as a blogger and I’m pretty sure I’ve thought of every single one of them.
But there is no blogging failure. Truly. Just like there’s no such thing as life failure, as long as you adjust your lens appropriately. So focusing on the joys of this space and why I keep writing here seems the best way to celebrate five years. (Also, avoid dying alone on a street corner.) (Cough.)
What I Love About Blogging
1. Amusing myself and pretending it’s “practicing my craft.”
2. Connecting with people I would never have met otherwise.
3. Having a record of my days and years, especially those small moments that might not make the death door flashback but are, in total, the ones that make life worth the ride.
4. Sharing what truly brings me joy. Like dancing in moose slippers, napping at the symphony, making hats for pasta ducks, and tipping strippers.
Here’s to the next five years! And to loving every minute of it.

I’m so glad you started this blog! I can’t imagine a Moose-less life. It’d be so sad and lacking in devil horns.

Congratulations! Five years is a long time to do anything. I wish I had an award to give you. A ribbon, gold stars, something. How about a little undying love and devotion for entertaining me and making me think? That’s about all I got. Hope it’ll do.

But you’re really not pretending that you are practicing your craft…you *are* practicing your craft!
Cough, says the writer who “practices her craft” in emails to her friends (and yes, even in blog comments) because there’s not very much room for creativity in the paid writing she does…

Thanks, everyone! So lovely of you to say. I would now like to give you all cupcakes. Just scroll up to the top of the page there. YOU’RE WELCOME.
And, yes, the piquant streaks of gray in my hair concur. Ye olde blog is a mere babe in arms by comparison.

Happy blogiversary! Mine will be 4 in October!
I also have issues with the desire to keep posting. Much like my desire to work out and eat healthy, it has gone by the wayside.

You’re a fine wine, my dear, aging beautifully. Yours is one blog I keep returning to, no matter how far afield my mind wanders. And about point number 6? I believe I’ll be on that same street corner of Unpublished Novel and Broken Dreams.
