Today Will Henceforth Be Known As “That Time I Danced With Brittany From Glee”
Posted by Moose on June 21st, 2010. Filed under: Adventures. My deep and abiding love for Glee is no secret. This love has grown exponentially as beloved characters develop and even Sue digs deep in her brittle rib cage for a feebly-beating heart. Also: I got to dance with Brittany.
For those of you don’t watch (and if you don’t, WHY NOT?), Brittany is the blonde cheerleader who thinks the square root of four is rainbows. She firmly believes that a ballad is a male duck and, when trying to help a fellow club member redefine her outward, clothing-based persona, suggests cross-country skiier. Or a Happy Meal without onions. Or a chicken.
Needless to say, Brittany charms me utterly. So when I was offered the chance to write about the theater camp where Heather Morris, the actor who plays Brittany, was doing a master class, I said HELL YES. I wasn’t even more professional with my word choice, because any profession that requires me to be professional is not the profession for me.
As we figured out details, the camp director suggested I bring my dance shoes and jump in. My reply was, “I’m pretty sure you were kidding, BUT I’M TOTALLY BRINGING THEM ANYWAY.”
So I did. Performing The Safety Dance with Heather Morris and 150 drama kids – one of whom was in full drag, including bleached blonde mullet – is like chasing a prozac with Red Bull. I WAS SO HIGH ON LIFE THAT MY ENTHUSIASM AND LOVE FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD WAS VISIBLE FROM MARS. In fact, it may have tipped the earth’s axis ever so slightly, so if a small volcano suddenly pokes through your kitchen floor, blame me.
Guess what? NOW I CAN DO THIS:

So you’re saying you can do the Artie dance? Although a lot of musical numbers in Glee annoy me, I loved this one. Artie gots major kicks! Who knew?
(Maybe everybody knew. I’m catching up on this show after a year in Africa where, oddly enough, they occasionally broadcast Glee. But I forgot how to watch TV without a DVR, so.. there you go.)

I have to confess I’ve never seen Glee – we’ve been away for nearly a year, what can I say. But that was brilliant and it sounds like you had an awesome time…

I heard that Artie is actually the best dancer of the group, which is unfortunate since he’s in a wheelchair. But seriously, I’m SO JEALOUS you got to do this. Amazing!!

Oh, I was jealous of the kids that got to go to drama camp. Now, I’m jealous of an adult going – I guess somethings never change!

Totally jealous!
While Sue is the number one love of my Glee universe, Brittany totally cracks me up. Waiting for her gems is really the easter egg hunt of that show. My fav Brittanyism is “when I pulled my hamstring I went to a …misogynist”

I kind of love this. Like, a lot.

Love love LOVE this. And, YAY you!

I am jealous that you could get paid for going to drama camp.
(love glee)

I LOVE Glee. It seriously makes my day! As in I would wake up in the morning and be all “GLEE’S ON TONIGHT! What will Sue say about Will’s hair tonight?!”
(Is this pathetic? Probably, but who cares!)
And now you can do the Artie dance, wicked. I suggest a wee video tutorial on how he does that fancy foot slide at the begining.

Funny, anytime I envision Brittany, it’s of her doing the Safety Dance! Love! Will you give a performance when I return to SF so I can see what I missed out on??

Or better yet, as A Cait’s Life suggested, VIDEO please. It would be the second best thing, just after your dancing moose slippers!

I’m old.(Well, younger than some but perhaps a bit too old to want to learn the dance routines from Glee) When my twice-a-week dance class instructor decided to do something Glee-inspired a few weeks back, I may have jumped for joy.
Whatever. It’s fun!
Sounds like a candidate for Best. Day. Ever!

Video, please!

VERY COOL! (sorry for the all caps – but that’s all I can muster to show how absolutely neat I think that must have been.) Is there a video from your camp session?

GLEE lovers, UNITE. It’s just one of the best shows ever. Period. And I actually feel really bummed for anyone who a) isn’t watching and b) never gave it a chance.
There were multiple episodes from the first season I watched multiple times, and Brittany is one of my favorites. YAY! FOR DANCING.

Hi! It´s July 4th and it´s the first time I´ve been able to get to a computer. You haven´t posted anything in a week. Should I be worried? We´re in Sweden and having a great time.

Hi, Mom! No, you shouldn’t be worried. Just busy doing things like sailing and hiking and getting head-butted by cute dogs.
Hope Sweden is treating you well!

I love Glee and singing and dancing. It makes me smile a big irrepressible smile! Glad to see it does the same for you.

you = my hero.
It’s official.

Thanks for your reassurance and glad that you’re having fun sailing and hiking. I assume you’re still keeping too busy to post another entry, so I won’t worry. Norway is beautiful, with its fjords, lakes, woods, etc!!!!! We’re now in Oslo (Friday afternoon) and will be here until we leave Sunday morning. See you Tuesday.
Love, Mom

I hope all is well. I have been a bit out of touch (ie – not reading my regulars or on the computer much), and am sad to see you’re not around right now either. I hope things are ok and that you’ll be back to writing soon.
