While living in one of my previous apartments on the outskirts of downtown my roommate and I noticed a sign that we thought said Tiki Lounge. We were so excited – until we realized it really said Tiki LODGE and there was nothing even faintly Polynesian about the place. Maybe sometime in the past it had been decorated as such, but now it is just a sad concrete motel along the railroad tracks.

Also, I’m sure the librarian in the history center will enjoy your enthusiasm. Chances are they are a bigger nerd about it than even you.

The most shocking thing to me is that Cat Fancy exists and has survived this economy. Actually, I take it back. Last night we went to Autozone for some oil for our car, and there were NUMEROUS magazines devoted to specific TYPES of cars. Did you know that mustangs should be called Stangs if you know what you’re talking about?

There’s a Tiki bar in Portland which requires you to walk over a wooden bridge as you are walking through the door (over a trickling stream of ACTUAL WATER that comes from…hmmm…somewhere that is hopefully not the bathroom, and you can hardly see because it’s so dark (save for the Tiki torches, of course), and all of the drinks come with little umbrellas and there is a bartender whose name is, wait for it…Kent Fart, and you are totally buying a ticket to PDX right now, aren’t you?
