My New Favorite Camel
Posted by Moose on May 26th, 2009. Filed under: Tis the Season.I’m almost (almost) glad to go to work this morning. It will give me the chance to dry out a little. My liver is a withered husk of its former self and wishes for nothing more than a week of lemon water and tender coddling. Memorial Day Weekend means a lot of drinking during the daylight hours. Apparently. (This is not a complaint, by the way.) (Except from my liver. It respectfully requests a new host, one who won’t recklessly pickle it at the slightest provocation.)
Things That Thoroughly Delighted Me This Weekend:
1. The generous dusting of cinnamon and sugar on the french toast at Olea. (With mimosa.)
2. The Brothers Bloom: Confirms my theory that no expectations are the best expectations when walking into a movie. I had no previously conceived ideas (the benefit of being entirely ignorant of most of the doings of the entertainment industry) and it ended up charming me in the way Amelie did, only with more flask nipping camels and 35-year-old men on banana-seated Schwinns. By which I mean to say, absolutely hilarious.
3. Escaping the gloom of San Francisco for a sun-dappled hike through Muir Woods, ending on the wooden deck of the German beer garden. Where we met up with friends who were conveniently armed with fresh bread, cheese, and strawberries from the farmer’s market. And then ate most of their stash. (This thoroughly delighted me. The rightful owners of the bread and cheese, maybe not so much.) And did I mention the beer? Pitchers (entire pitchers) of beer. (My poor, abused innards just twitched feebly. And are trying to expedite their application for new housing, preferably with someone who enjoys O’Douls and long naps.)
4. The gingerbread pancakes at Zazie. (With mimosa.)
5. Sending this picture to Holly with the message, “We found hats for your wedding!”
6. Knitting valiantly for everyone who mentioned their cell phone was maybe a little cold, and will you please do something about that? WHY, YES. YES I WILL. (I’ll be emailing you all shortly for details.)
Hope you had a lovely weekend as well and were kinder to your internal organs than I was.

The rightful owners of the bread, cheese, and strawberries were happy to share. Especially since we had such good company

I did start the weekend (on Friday!) with the most decedent lunch I’ve ever had. But I’m afraid that all that wind and grey skies really took the sails out of my daytime drinking plans. Glad to hear someone soldiered on though!

Drooling over the pancakes. Yum. Is it any wonder that it’s always”one step forward and two steps back” with my “I will eat healthy” resolutions!
Can’t wait for the movie to release here.

what? only two mimosas?
I too, indulged. A sangria and then four beers and then some major sips of J’s jack daniels… after only a salad for dinner one night. Three glasses of red wine the next night after only some lobster bisque (yeah, I know, gross). It’s wednesday and I am still feeling it. I gotta see that movie!

I was not particularly kind to my internal organs this past weekend, but I maintain my internal organs needed a bit of livening up.
And anyway, floating lazily around a lake on a pontoon boat all weekend doesn’t call for water. It calls for frosty bottles of beer.

He he. We went to the Cambridge beer festival and then punting down the river Cam. Or, shall I say the boys punted? The girls rode respectfully and took pictures of the boys working hard. Faster, faster, uh, you wanna straighten it out a bit, I feel like french fries are we almost there yet? It was fab.

You crack me up. I’m sorry you’ve been a bit blue. Hope it turns around. I’m happy you have your blog – as it has brightened for than a few of my days.
