Zsa Zsa Gabor Would Approve. Deena Kastor Would Not.

There’s something to be said for putting on a slinky dress and absurdly high heels and going big on a Monday night. Of course, anything good that can be said about such a plan is generally said on the Monday evening and not so much on the Tuesday morning following. Especially when you wake up to the realization that you may have promised a co-worker you’d run five miles with her at lunch.

I’ve never run five miles in my life. Except during that one Bay-to-Breakers with a marathon-running friend who swore we’d walk. I discovered that her idea of walking and my idea of walking are two very different things. My version calls to mind a stroll through the rose garden with a parasol and an idle discussion of the latest scandal. Hers calls to mind a brisk trot, the kind you might pull out if you were being chased by wolves through a dark forest, maybe the one where The Blair Witch Project was filmed.

Last night was the platonic ideal of a Monday evening – ate a delicious haunch of pork with entertaining people and aired a much-neglected bit of my wardrobe in public. So at least if I collapse in a pitiful heap while trying to keep up with my active co-worker at lunch today, it will be in service of the espresso flan and candied almonds – and the German chocolate cake eaten after we drove past a German restaurant on the way home and thought, you know what this evening needs? MORE DESSERT.

More dessert! Now that’s a sentiment I can always get behind.

You could run just ONE mile and impress me. Especially after you’ve spent an evening in high heels.

FUN night! Yippee! You deserve a little fancy clothing and chocolate cake in your life, my dear =)

Mmmm, high heels….extra dessert! That sounds like my ideal evening.

Running at lunch? Um, well, there better be wolves and they better have giant teeth. Now could someone pass me a cupcake?

What’s up with the German Chocolate Cake, I hear about from so many people?
Honestly, the German Chocolate Cake seems to be an American Chocolate Cake in disguise… there’s no German Chocolate Cake like the ones you get here in Germany ;)

Running/walking at lunch is for the birds. And running anytime just kinda sucks. But more dessert?! Um, YES PLEASE! Sounds like a great night.

Now I run on occasion but who the hell runs five miles at lunch?! If you’re decent runner, that would take about 30-40 minutes which doesn’t leave a lot of time for eating anything afterwards, cooling down and changing.

You crazy, girl (if you do it, more power to you. Just don’t die on us, please).

It’s so fun to go big on a weeknight every now and then. It always seems so much more glamorous than going big on the weekend.

But yeah, if you actually run anything more than 5 steps I will be highly impressed.

Unless chased by an animal that outweighs me by 50 pounds or is known to have lethal venom, I doth not run. Ever.

So I am SINCERELY impressed that you pulled this off–at lunch no less. I just managed to eat a Cobb Salad.

I still feel kind of bad when I think about it. But, you had fun, right? And now it’s fodder all these years later for the blog. AND it was raining. Who wants to walk in coconuts and a grass skirt in the rain? Not me. Apparently. Sorry!

I really hate those things, like going out late drinking, that seem like such a good idea at the time and then NOT AT ALL the next morning.

    That was my Tuesday.

I am dying to know how the 5 miles at lunch went! I think I would have just started laughing when my co-worker asked me to log that sort of mileage with her when I should have been eating a sandwich or soup.

Oh, and yeah, I totally am going to feel hungover tomorrow because it’s almost 1:00am and why am I not asleep? Awesome.
