Things That Have Amused Me This Week

Walking to work, Monday: Mentally improved San Francisco’s public transportation. If you aren’t in the mood for the bus or the train or the cable car, try a camel! Everything’s better when seated on the back of a camel.

Walking to work, Wednesday: Two teenage boys, wearing puffy jackets and pants that sagged below the elastic of their boxers. Boys of this stripe are usually swaggering. These boys? Were skipping. They were skipping down the street. Looking determined, as if engaged in a skipping competition.

Trying to be healthy: I brought an orange to work for breakfast. Only to discover when I got to my desk that it wasn’t an orange. It was a lemon.

How to make boys like you: Become a giraffe.

Walking from Market Street to Russian Hill, Thursday night: I passed a group of people who looked like escapees from an Edward Gorey illustration, if Edward Gorey moonlighted as a clown in a pie factory. As I walked past the cable car turnaround a few minutes later, I saw the cable cars were stopped and the brick walk covered in a slippery film of white. Everywhere, people were smeared with foam. If I’d been a few minutes earlier, I’d have walked unwittingly into the middle of a massive pie fight.

Helping an older coworker understand the internet: “Thanks so much for your suggestion; I goggled him and found the answer!” No problem. Any time. Always happy to help with the goggling.

Camels…giraffes…I’m sensing a theme here. You like ‘em big, huh? (The animals, I mean. Duh.) And gangly for that matter.

Seriously, folks. Watch that giraffe video if you have a few moments. I would like to add this guy to my imaginary staff (butler, masseuse, cook, and houseboy named Paco) so he could amuse me whenever I so desired. (Though I guess that’s what the internet is for.) (But, no! I want custom amusement! I DEMAND MY ENTERTAINMENT TAILORED TO SUIT MY SPECIFICATIONS!) (Which would probably just entail exactly what he just did.) (As you were.)

    Anyway: Good stuff.

    But did you make lemonade?

Even better? Picturing a moose riding a camel to work.

If it could happen anywhere, it could happen in San Francisco

Again with the Paco reference. Paco is the name of the dude that was going to be my Grad date…until I ditched him for a hot dude named Chris.

    I was so awesome.

I passed by there just post-pie fight as well. The cable car drivers had very funny “kids these days” expressions on their faces.

I laughed out loud about the lemon. Just wanted you to know that.
