Love Isn’t Really That Small. Neither Is Ice Cream.

Posted by Moose on January 23rd, 2009. Filed under: Daily.

I sometimes take things for granted. Taking things for granted doesn’t really add much to my life in the way of happiness or fulfillment. Plus, if you do it long enough, it starts to piss people off. So I’m changing it. I wanted to be all profound and articulate about this, but it’s 5:00 in the morning. If any of you are profound and articulate at 5:00 in the morning, you must have sold your soul to some sweet-talking demon with horns and halitosis and I haven’t met anyone like that yet.

So I will just say this: Grace in Small Things is a good thing to do. Try it.

Grace in a Wednesday:

1. The man behind the counter who sings the transaction Verdi-style as he rings up my ice cream

2. Brand-new down comforters

3. Love notes spray painted onto the sidewalk

4. Coming home to a box of books from Amazon

5. Fingers that tingle when I walk into a warm house after a cold walk

~

Yes, I just started and I’m already two days behind. Might that antlered demon throw in promptness and follow-through if I promise that my soul is extra tasty?

Here’s mine for today: Moose. Just Moose.

I LOVE this idea and am always trying to be more blissed out and in awe of the incredible wonder of living, instead of the kind of stress ball who gets frustrated when someone takes the last bagel at work.

I signed up too, and am working on a post. I cannot commit to every day, but will do it when I feel led.

    LOVE your list!

I love those spray-painted love notes. They always make my heart flutter.

This occurs on a daily basis, but this morning I was blissfully aware of contented it makes me to tuck our snuggly old lady pugs underneath the comforter when I rise before 6 am on chill winter mornings, and how responsive they are to ear rubs and other affections while they are still snuggly-buggly in bed.

  7. Camels & Chocolate

Ha, I just started it, too! Yesterday. But on a separate non-travel blog entirely. Because that isn’t at all confusing!

This is really cool. As a lifelong naysaying whiner, I am very intrigued. :) Thank you for sharing!

And I’ll take your box of Amazon books and raise you a stack of FREE library books! :)

Spray-painted love notes? Man, I uh, don’t see too many of these around here. Well, I guess the “f” word, if used in the proper context….hmmm. Nah. (Regardless, I love your list! Amazon book packages! Down comforters! I WANT.

I am GiSTing too… it does help to keep everything in perspective (and keeps you blogging regularly). However, when you’re sick for the 5th week in a row? You only seem to be thankful for cough and cold related products. And that is not as entertaining to read… just to warn you :)

By best blessing today? A phone call I got after picking up my kids at their activity tonight. I was in a hurry since it was already past their bedtimes, and I LIVE for getting all four of them to sleep at the same time. Evidently, I was REALLY in a hurry…because I left my stroller and purse sitting on the sidewalk! I scooped up the kids, got them buckled in the car, and drove off with my stroller and purse still sitting there. ACK! I didn’t even realize it, until a guy called to let me know he’d grabbed it for me and locked it in his office for safe-keeping until tomorrow.

More of grace in a big thing…but something I’m thankful for none the less.

Thanks for the positive and uplifting post. We’d all do well to search for blessings in the small things, I think.
