This Post Was Going to Be Longer, But the Coffee Shop is Closing

I want a house that color.

Despite my best intentions, I’m generally too lazy to explore a neighborhood until I move into it and realize I need groceries. I never found any food, because I was too distracted by this house, cleverly disguised as an atomic banana.

The cat wants to eat my soul

Here is the household cat. I think she resents me. Or merely wants to devour my soul with mustard.

Felt mustache, anyone?

I can’t wait to introduce both new ‘hood and aggravated cat to the felt mustache (sent by the excellent Kerrianne). I think the cat needs another reason to hate life. And the only thing better than an atomic banana disguise is a mustachioed atomic banana disguise.

I think the aggravated and the felt mustache will get on swimmingly :)

That house actually makes me sort of happy. On a cloudy day, you can pretend it’s the sun and be happy. Without getting skin cancer.

  3. All Adither

What ever will you do without food? Does that house actually produce any bananas?

  4. Anonymous

Gorgeous photos! I hardly remember days in SF that were that clear!

I think that cat looks a little evil… something about those eyes… I’m not sure he’d wait for the mustard…

  5. Camels & Chocolate

That’s a beautiful SF shot! When you buy it, can I move in to its basement?

Also, let’s hope that cat likes you more than Scott’s did when I first moved in (if you recall, it left YELLOW PAINT PAWPRINTS down the back of my brand new for-San-Francisco khaki coat. GAH. Someone’s still bitter months later.).

  6. Greg

SF cats don’t use mustard with their souls; they use pesto from Whole Foods.

  7. Angella

The atomic banana is AWESOME. Only because there is a house that is that colour here, but I called it “piss yellow”.

    You are much more creative.

And you got the mustache! I am envious. And also? Wondering why you are not wearing it :)

Maybe I’m looking at the photos too closely, as I really do like the bright colors as Spring seems to have arrived, but does anyone else see the black cloud (smudge) over the brown, high-rise? At first I thought it was on my computer screen and tried to wipe it away, then the scroll button proved else-wise. Truly, a clever trick Moose, indeed! (Just like to use the word, ‘indeed’, whenever I can.)

  9. May & Anne

Um, I want to register for wedding china like that serving platter. So whimsical!

Also, I would watch out. That cat definitely has its eyes on your soul…

  10. Loralee

I am looking like that cat right now.

    Why?

Because I have no felt mustache.

    Dammit.

  11. Kerri Anne

I love that you did a walkabout this afternoon. I ended up ditching my laptop for a bit, too, to let Iggy freak out! in the park. (Also: I’m pretty sure that cat would make Iggy cry.)

And Angella and Loralee, I am sending out more mustaches! soon, I promise.

  12. bethany actually

It looks like you have a lovely neighborhood!

  13. Nora

A kitty with character. Gotta love it!

And, uh, yeah that smudge is weird.

Now when people ask where you live – you can say “You know that big yellow house that you can see from space – right near there!” And then when you invite them over you can wear the mustache to greet them at the door.

  15. Sunny

SF has such pretty houses! Even the cleverly disguised sort. I think the cat might actually be communicating in cat-ese; I believe the phrase roughly translates as, “… and WHY aren’t you petting me right now?”

i cannot look at that first picture without singing the theme song to “Full House” ;)

  17. Nothing But Bonfires

I LOVE that plate! Was that one of your Goodwill on Market finds? If so, I’m worried the Alameda Flea Market in two weeks may be a letdown for you…..

  18. Moose

C&C (music factory): I’ve decided I must move into the atomic banana house, by hook or crook. If I manage it, you may live on that lovely balcony there. (I might let you come in if it gets foggy.)

Greg: I am very happy you pointed that out. As I was walking out of the coffee shop (as in, away from internet service with which to fix this glaring error) after posting this, I thought “you know, that cat really needs to eat my soul with LEMON GARLIC AIOLI.” Specifically, the kind I just purchased from Whole Foods.

Running Bob: Yes, that smudge is definitely there. Sadly, I have no idea what it is or where it came from. (The darkness of my soul, perhaps?)

Nothing But Bonfires: Wouldn’t this have been the BEST FLEA MARKET FIND EVER? But, no. It came from my grandmother. Or my great aunt. Or someone who was alive when they knew how to make the china.

  19. Renee from GA

Dude! I have collected happy china like that for several years and have never met any one else that owned a piece! It’s by a Danish company called Nymolle and the artist is Bjorn Wiinblad. Why I am telling you this when you can just turn the plate over and read it, the internet may never know :) You can get more of it on Ebay if you are interested in collecting.

Wishing for you an unsecured network and much happiness near the atomic banana house.

  20. Jemima

Dude, we MUST go flea marketing, and moustache marketing. And I will bring Beuls over to take care of soul-eating Mister Kitty.

    Bye-Bye, Kitty.

  21. Peter Varvel

LOL! My sister and her GF’s used to call each other ‘dude.’
Hey! Maybe some photoshopped pics with that gorgeous mustache superimposed over the cranky, soul-eating kitty’s face, and over the Atomic Banana (which would make a GREAT name for a band!).

  22. The Over-Thinker

Angella, if that house is piss yellow, I think you need to drink more water :-)

  23. panda

what neighborhood is that in? because i live in SF too and that looks exactly like my cat! that would be so weird. anyway, i love your writing, will keep reading your blog.
