A Mere Eight Months Late
Posted by Moose on December 7th, 2007. Filed under: Travel.I like my purses roomy. When I leave the house for more than ten minutes, I want to be sure I have a full range of entertainment and snacking options. When I went to Italy in May, my purse held guide books (yes, plural), maps, notebooks, various documentation, a camera, water, the aforementioned snacks – and a small moose. Because I enjoy baffling French tourists by carefully posing a stuffed animal in front of various dignified monuments.
My well-traveled but increasingly dingy stuffed moose was also a key component in the Where’s Moose Contest, a shameless rip-off cultured amalgamation of Amelie’s gnome and Where’s Waldo. This contest came with the promise of prizes. Prizes that languished on my desk until this morning. Clever counters might note that it has been eight months since the conclusion of both my trip and the contest. I am a class act, my friends. A class act. But now that I’ve hoofed it to the post office during the Christmas rush to send dusty Italian goods on their way, I am indulging in a few more moose pictures. Purely for my own amusement. It’s astonishing how much amusement can be had from balancing a stuffed moose on a crumbling funeral urn.
Take me to your mozzarella.
The moose in careful contemplation of Etruscan tweezers.
Is it disrespectful to plant a stuffed moose butt on a three-thousand-year-old Etruscan tomb?
Feeling bitter about his lack of digestive organs. Cotton innards are fluffy but provide little help in processing plump, juicy grapes.
Much conniving went into coercing a goose to pose with the moose. Sadly, I am easily out-connived by geese and he wandered off. But an eavesdropping swan decided Tenderly Stuffed Moose Head would make a fine entree, and paused just long enough for a photo op. Then I beat back the presumptuous fowl with my overstuffed purse.
Antlered Atlas.
Cannon fodder.

This seems like the perfect time to sheepishly remind you that I owe you, winner of the “Name Big Agnes’ Blog” contest, chocolate. Of course, that contest closed last spring, so now I’m making you look good! You can thank me later.

I’m so glad you all enjoy the stuffed moose as much as I do. He’s just so…cheerful. Especially when staring out the mouth of a cannon.

The one with the swan! You can tell the swan’s all, “Hi! Are you bread?”

Ah! Such a cute moose. He reminds me, as did the title of your blog when I first saw it, of the children’s book ‘If You Give a Moose a Muffin.’ Of course, as he’s all bitter about his digestive tract, this probably wouldn’t be the best time to give him a muffin.
Can I mention, belatedly, that I am very jealous about your trip to Italy. And the moose’s trip. I might eat a muffin in front of him to get even with my jealousy.

Woohoo!!!! I arrived home today from an excruciatingly loooong Monday to find a package in front of my door. I was stoked to find a cute bottle of Limoncello from Moose!!! (as opposed to some random ebay purchase I had made and forgotten about)
Thanks so much!! And I loooove the Moose pictures. Next time I travel, I am totally stealing the idea….only not with a moose, you know, because that would make me a copycat….

These are just wonderful. The atlas one is perfect. I’m glad you’re late in posting them, otherwise I’d never had seen them! I might need to consider doing something like this for our future travels. Though it might require a larger purse…hmmm.
