Absence Makes the House Grow Cleaner
Posted by Moose on July 18th, 2007. Filed under: Love.I had the house all to myself this past week and, let me tell you, it was liberating. Liberating to make the bed everyday and place the throw pillow just so. Liberating to eradicate all crumbs from the kitchen counter with a blue-sponged flourish. Some people enjoy their solitude with a bottle of beer and the remote. I enjoy it by cleaning things and watching in awe as they STAY CLEAN.
Psychiatric intervention may be necessary, but you know what? MY FLOOR IS SPOTLESS, MOTHERFUCKERS.
Still, I would much rather have snuggling partners who do this:
…than shiny-surfaced solitude. So I finally unlocked the door and let them back in.

I hope you put bright, multi-colored sheets and pillows on the bed too!

Oh yeah, there’s just no denying that face.

I want a dog so badly, but I am terrified of how much extra scrubbing and brushing and vacuuming will be thusly added to my already despised routine of cleanery.
(Um, also: At my office I arrange the magazines by genre, date and color. I’m completely hopeless.)

I LOVE cleaning the house, going away for several hours and coming back to find everything still clean. This has not happened in 8 years–(not so) coincidentally, the length of my marriage.

Wow – I really wish that absence would make MY house grow cleaner! However, I am the only person who lives here, so sadly, when I arrived back home today after work, my apartment was NOT cleaner than when I left….
Bright side??? Umm…it was also NOT dirtier!

The mere thought of going away this weekend and coming home to chaos is making me sick to my stomach. You’d think men would love using the vacuum cleaner! It’s like a giant power tool!
