Heartwarming Conclusion to Previous Cynical Thought
Posted by Moose on January 20th, 2007. Filed under: Love. What I didn’t say (see: finishing thoughts, trouble with) is that I do believe in love at first sight. (Well, I did say that. I’m taking the thought to its conclusion. This is rare. Appreciate it.) And I do believe it can last for years, even to the much-touted til’ death, etc.
I once fell in love with someone through a window. Every time I’ve thought “I love this person” (at least in a romantic sense), it has been vastly premature. Premature to the point where I hadn’t even met them yet. This happened twice. Both times, it panned out – I was right, I did love them. Reciprocation is often something else entirely. (Once yes, once no – in case you’re interested.) Which is another reason I like to wait. See: embarrassment, a lot of.
People can be extraordinarily intuitive when it comes to love (they can also be extraordinarily dense, but that’s a topic for a less heartwarming post). Sometimes if you feel it and it doesn’t make sense, it’s worth a blind leap. But my personal choice has always been to keep my flapping trap shut until I’m sure. Really sure. I do not use or take the words lightly. So I take my time, think about it, think about it some more, review my lists, wait awhile, think again, prepare some notecards, and then say something. People have noted in the past that I think way too much. Thinking way too much is my process and it works for me.
Everyone should do what feels right to them, whether that means shouting it out at a bus stop because she has a blue head and you’ve always had a feeling you’d marry a blue haired woman, or waiting four years to own up. A date that falls approximately three years after all your friends – and a few random strangers – have vocalized some variation on the “If it hasn’t been said yet, it never will” theme.
May you all find love and find it worth mentioning. With or without notecards.

I fell in love with someone through a window once too. But I quickly realized it was momentary infatuation because she was in the process of handing me a burger and fries.

I’ve fallen in love at second sight. And boy, was it a bad, bad idea.
And I’m with Darwin –
