“Would you get the ironing board?”

Entering the room with requested ironing board, “I would now like to take a moment and laugh at you for ironing the sheets.”

“Only the top sheet! And the pillow cases.”

“Yeah, ’cause that makes it better.”

Your grandmother used to iron (or rather, have ME iron) pillowcases (I can’t remember about the top sheet), towels, washcloths, and your grandpa’s undershirts. She also darned socks….

It is perfectly acceptable to iron sheets…if, and only if, you do not dry them in a tumble dryer. Says she who was staunchly against ironing until moving to England…Yes, I iron my sheets now. (Gasp!)

People iron sheets? I don’t remember the last time I ironed anything! In fact, I don’t know where our iron is…

hm. you know – I don’t think I OWN an iron anymore… I believe it may have been left the last time I moved . . .

(scrutinizes self) I don’t seem all that wrinkled. . .

so, you know, I am impressed by people who iron at all, never mind those enterprising souls who iron their SHEETS. . .

Full disclosure: Sometimes I iron pillowcases.

By “sometimes” I mean “every time I wash them.”

Ironing can be very relaxing…almost trance-like.

My mom used to iron her hair in the 60s. (Random ironing fact.) I doubt that was very relaxing or trance-like, though.

    Happy New Year, btw.
