Drunk and Full of Cake

My CDs used to be in alphabetical order. Then I got a life. Now I can’t find my CDs.

In other news, I am sitting in the living room. Wait, it gets better! People are discussing string theory, the dog is begging for peanuts and I am spilling things on the carpet. It is no longer raining.

I am fond of the rain. Except when I have to eat dinner in it. My mom’s retirement party was held outside. Unfortunately, it was held on Friday. Friday, the day with all the rain. We sat under a gazebo roof (those are the ones that have all the holes) with umbrellas up, napkins on heads, all of us getting mighty soggy. Rain dripped into the wine glasses and drenched the table cloths. After we were funnelled indoors and starting to dry off, the drunken coworkers began to appear.

To me: “You’re so cute!”

To my mom: “She must take after your ex-husband.”

Then people started saying nice things. I was disappointed until I realized that the evening wasn’t solely about entertaining me. It was to, you know, honor my mom and other retiring teachers. People cried, large unidentifiable glass objects were handed out, much cake was eaten.

In fact, I ate cake all weekend. I’ll eat cake tomorrow. I’ll probably still be eating cake on Thursday. The favors at today’s wedding party? Entire sheet cakes. I did my duty as a good guest and took one home. People seem to understand that when there are sheet cakes to pawn off, I’m a one stop shop.
